Asus P7p55d won't recognize Samsung 840 ssd

I'm attempting to upgrade a build I made a few years ago with a Samsung 840 ssd 128gb drive. I hooked up the drive and formated it in NTSC in my current Windows XP install. I don't plan on getting rid of my XP but rather having keeping it as a dual boot option.

Anyhow, I checked the bios and noticed that the board did not appear to see the ssd drive. When I booted to my Win 7 disc and attempted to install, it saw the SSD drive but would not install to it saying that the motherboard did not recognize it as a boot device.

Further investigation into bios option have yielded no solutions. Can anyone give me a clue?

  1. Make sure you have latest firmware installed on SSD and latest BIOS on mobo.

Did you try moving it from a Marvell controller to the Intel controller (or vice versa)?
  2. I switched controllers (honestly I don't know the difference between Marvell and Intel controllers but I switched from one to another). That was a no go.

Tried to update to the latest bios (p7p55d-asus-2101) but got a message that my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements???

Trying the bios version just previous to the latest as I've never updated.

Look on the mobo and make sure it's in the spot marked SATA1.

Also, in the BIOS the Configure SATA option needs to be set to AHCI.

Might try flashing BIOS with USB stick via EZ Flash 2 option.
  4. Thanks so much. I tried moving it to the SATA1 spot and it worked like a charm. Hooked everything up and now have a dual boot machine that appears to be working flawlessly.

    Thanks J_E_D_70!
