My CPU is bottlenecking my GPU

Hi!

I've bought this new 7950 3GB AMD card, and i knew that it would bottleneck my CPU, since it's a high end card. So i tried to OC my 4100 AMD fx 3.7ghz to 4.4ghz which is pretty stable now. I've noticed some fps increase, but unfortunately not high enough. So i took at test in BF3, where you can see how your CPU and GPU perfoms together. And i saw that the GPU ran just 1-0.5 fps lower than the CPU, which means it's still bottlenecking it :(. Tried to OC my GPU aswell, but it didnt help at all. What do you guys recommend me to do? Get a new CPU? I'm kinda stuck on what my next move should be..

GPU: Radeon 7950 3GB
CPU: AMD FX 4100 4.4ghz OC
MOBO: gigabyte 970a-d3 am3+
PSU: 650watt
Cooler: cooler master hyper 212 evo.
RAM: 8gb

First, qualify what you mean by 'bottleneck'. How many FPS are you getting, at what settings and resolution, -vs- how many you expect to get?

Now, assuming it is bottlenecking, you may not need an 8350. A 6300 would be fine for BF3 on a current AM3+ board with a 970 or better chipset.

Also have you tried a driver clean and reinstall?
Have you made sure nothing is running in the background killing your performance?
Get the 8350, if your mother board supports it then you don't have to replace a bunch of parts. I wouldn't attempt to over clock it past a point where it's comfortable. But being .5-1 fps behind isn't bad.

--Update: I just looked up your motherboard's cpu support list and the 8350 was not listed, the 8300 was though.

@Burdenbound - My Mobo supports 8350 :) But i don't know if the 8350 is enough, because i've heard upgrading from 4100 to 8350 is a waste of money.

@Maddaogfargo - I was thinking about gettin the 8350 yes, but i meant by it was behind my CPU, by 1 fps means it can't go further up because my CPU is blocking its power.

edit: only supports 8300 :(
edit: some ppl say it does support 8350 actually, and other ppl have the same mobo as me with 8350 on o_O

If you know of people with the same board using the 8350 go for it, just make sure you update to the latest bios version first. I don't think upgrading to the 8350 would be a waste of money, it's the fastest CPU AMD has to offer and I have seen benchmarks where is does significantly better than the 4100. Albeit the i5 is still better for gaming, but for the price you can't beat it.

Just found out my board wont be able to run the 8350.. Because it's rev 1. Well, time to throw in a couple of hundred $ for a new board+cpu sometime in the future. Thanks for your help anyways! :)
