I live in China and am on a summer trip to the U.S. While here I thought I'd take advantage and purchase a better wireless router for our apartment there. We currently have a Linksys WRT54GS.
From what I understand from our internet guy there (through translation-so that limits the info somewhat) that since the ISP has only 802.11g capability there is no reason to buy another router since 802.11a/c/n routers would not be able to take advantage of bands that don't exist. I'm sure there is more to it than that but that's my best interpretation.
My question is: Is there still a router (or wireless/networking product) purchase I can make that can use improvements in the current technology and help me create a better wireless environment in the apartment?
Our setup: We have two desktop PC's, two PC laptops, an iPhone and will be adding an iPad and replacing one of the desktops with a Mac Mini. In addition I thought I might try to use something like the Seagate wireless plus as a drive for the iPad.
If current routers are backwards compatible with 802.11g I was thinking that at least I might be able to get better coverage inside the apartment with a router that is better in getting the signal through the walls (concrete--not drywall) and at a distance.
Thanks for any help!
