That build looks great but al ot of the parts are unnecessarily expensive for no better reason (it seems) than to use up the op's pretty ridiculously high budget. Sure $3000 is a lot for a pc build, but that doesn't mean we have to try and spend it all.

The maximus VI mobo is way overkill for someone who has stated, "im bad at over clocking and have no clue about it...". A more modest standard mobo would do jsut fine and be mroe than ample for any overclocking the op eventually decides to do.

Also, corsair vengeance is kinda gimmicky and often overpriced seeing as modern memory has no need for heatsinks at all, its purely cosmetic and a tool for inflating the price, but I digress.

Oh and before I forget, that power supply is sooooo painfully overkill for a single gtx 780. Get an XFX 750w and you're more than good (could even go 650w with xfx or seasonic cause of their quality, but might be tight depending on future overclocking)

as you do want a new monitor and are new to overclocking here is the AMD option the CPU is already overclocked and the rest does not need overclocking

If you really want to play x plane 10 on max settings(and I suppose that you wouldn't stay long on single 1400x900 monitor),than 3000$ budget is ok.
Xplane will make every bit of torture :) to the CPU and GPUs,and here why I recommend 6 core beast+tri way xfire....it is known that xplane scales well on multiple video cards.

So here you go http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1pMbG

cheers

32gb for gaming is overkill and so was the CPU

This is my favorite build so far, except the mobo is a bit much. Also, I wouldn't go with 3 gpu's just cause of micro stutter and scaling, diminishing returns hit very hard at that point and you are not getting nearly as much per $$ spent as 2 cards. my 2 cents.

Get a nice monitor and you're good to go.

I would completely disagree on this.Ive know people who use dual socket Xeons!??(yes its true) servers like config to run it :)
i7-3930k +32GB ram is a hello kitty compared to those :) and yes its at least adequate to run xplane on max. That game is CPU hog,and i7-3930k will blown away all new quad cores in this game.

maybe add back in the xfx 7970 but know one will use the full 32gb plus the this set should be able to max Xplane out

I wholeheartedly agree, this build looks great for xplane AND other future games as well. Granted, xplane is a hugely cpu intensive game that WILL take advantage of as many processing cores as you can muster, however blowing all your cash on moar and moar cpu power will benefit solely xplane alone. The gpu performance of dual 7970's ensures that all theo ther graphics-intensive games out and that have yet to be released will run smoothly on the system, 12 core xeon's will have no effect on those games.

Note: that 1200w psu isn't necessary unless you're also running a mini bar fridge off it too 0.o

All said, this is true...but only if you consider playing on a single monitor.Ive doubt that anyone will blown 3k$ to play just on a single monitor, and when the time comes to go eyefiniti??? Where the updatability options will be? socket1155 is dead,CPU by itself is weak(conditionally)...

P.S.take my config, throw one graphic card and put a single monitor instead. When the need arise bring back the third 7970 and problem solved :)

Your config is good well balanced and will play x plane 10 quite good(as well as most other games).
But from Justsomeguy12 post(and question),he is most interested in x plane 10 on max settings. And that change the game a bit.Throw triple monitors with 5760x1080 with full world rendering on that game+ fly physics simulation and ordinary gaming PC will start to choke.

Besides that HD7970 on itself is enough for single monitor+another card for every monitor added.Surely GTX780 is more powerful but is more costly as well.

The op wants a gaming pc mine is well balanced plus why does he need 3 monitors sounds like a waste of his cash he should start off with my build and a single monitor then if he wants a extra graphics card or monitor then he can buy one and upgrade when he needs too

Exactly to my point :)
He can buy and add graphic cards and monitors. But is more awkwardly to go other way around...to buy new mobo and CPU :)
i7-3930k+ASRock X79 Extreme6 ATX LGA2011 is future proof(at least with this game) and even still there Ive Bridge-E coming this fall, and Haswell-E next year(that is if the need arise).
So op can choose if he will add monitors and graphic cards, but rock bottom he will have a solid base on which he can upgrade their PC for x plane or something else.
