I have a used lenovo x61s -7666 that I put windows 8 Pro. I would like to upgrade memory to 4 from 2 GB. It does not recognize 4 GB. I switched modules around and confirmed that they are good and the sockets are also good. Do I need a bios upgrade or something? Thanks.

Solution

If the memory is a PC2-5300/PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM SODIMMs and if they are 2GB modules then it should work without any issues. In your case, reset the CMOS and try flashing the latest BIOS update and then install the new memory.
