Just wondering who out there has any certs like A+,Net+,Security+,CCNA,MCSA,elc. I'm just curious on how the certs help you or didn't help you with finding a job. Right now I'm in school for Network system administration and I love it! It's a pretty cool course and it's not like those courses that just prepare you for the exams. This course is more like a business and is more hands on. My instructor will purposely screw up the network or computer, then have a student try to fix it. The course pays for the A+ and Network+ but any other cert i will have to pay out of pocket. Most students usually end up getting a cisco or microsoft cert by the end of the year. I'm just curious how other people made there way into IT field.

Well, at the moment I"m doing pretty much what you are doing. I've already studied for A+, and I'm ready to take the exam. I got a job doing network help desk for a major telecom (to get experience in troubleshooting network problems) and I'm studying Network+ also. Alot of websites I've visited suggest that most people pretty much go the way we both are going now, although alot of people hate help desk (not too fond of it myself, but its a job). My goal is A+, N+, Sec+....then move along from there and see where the wind blows me. Good luck!!

Well congrats on landing a job! I hear that alone is one of the hardest things to do after getting certified. Yeah figure A+ and Net+ is a solid combination to start off with. I actually have a friend who started off with A+ and sec+ which to me never made that much sense since security has a lot to do with networking, but he did land a good job so I guessed it paid off. I just figure you should have the network+ before security since security has a lot to do with networking. lol

Thanks alot! The job isn't very fun, but it pays a decent amount for now. And with the other certs it can only get better. Plus, the experience is the main reason i actually got the job.
