First time build advice required

I am building a system from scratch for the first time, so I have some newbie questions!

CPU is Haswell i5 4670k
Motherboard is gigabyte z87x-oc

My question is do I need a separate cooling fan for the CPU?

The CPU will come with a heatsink fan. If you want to overclock, you need to spend money on an aftermarket cooler like the coolermaster hyper 212 evo.

I am sure I have chosen the best CPU, but do you have an opinion on the motherboard? Is it a good choice for the CPU?

That motherboard is rather expensive and for $50 less you can get a board which will do everything just as well. Then you could use the money for a better GPU.
