sorry to drag this up but can you confirm that this motherboard does or doesnt work with the 8350? theres conflicting posts all over the web over this issue. according it should as its AM3+ etc. does it just need a BIOS flash to the latest BIOS to work?? ive heard people saying it throttles due to overheating. oh gosh/ thanks again and sorry for dragging this thread up

edit** the last guy says it does with BIOS f11, but i found the BIOS only goes to F6 anf F7 BETA?

Sorry to dig this up but I use the GA-970A-DS3. I also wanted to upgrade my CPU to the FX-8350 but all revisions of this motherboard simply do not support the 8350. The furthest it supports is the 8300.
F7a is the last BIOS update this board will get.
I learnt that after I had already bought the CPU so now it just sits in it's box until I can upgrade my motherboard.
Look at the UD3 or UD5 boards if you want to stick with Gigabyte.
Don't attempt to try and use the 8350 with the DS3 unless you want to take the risk of burning out your board and possibly your CPU.

Sorry for draging this thread to even further, just want to make sure.

So how did it go, where you able to run amd fx 8350 with an upgrade? I just bought the same cpu and it will arrive in a couple of days.
I have the same mobo and I updated it to F6 version and now waiting. so just wanted to make sure if it is working?

Plus, my pc case is full of fans and I doubt that mine would overheat because I never clock cpu, rams and graphics and I'm not going to because it's risky.

The GA-970A-DS3 does not support the FX-8350.
The F6 update only supports up to the FX-8300.

Hi guys.I own this mobo ga-970a-ds3 rev 3.0 from over an year. And I also have the FX 8350.Ever since I bought it I had problems. Not sure if its related but I don't really have great performance in games.I am trying to figure out which of my components is not good. The one thing that I am sure of is that even if I go with my CPU up to 4.1 ghz the games are running laggy and really spiky.I've run into this tread so I tought I should ask. Thanks

Well this is the wrong thread to be asking that question but I will answer here.
You haven't mentioned the rest of your specs.
GPU and RAM would be helpful information.

But you're using a FX 8350 with a GA-970A-DS3. None of the GA-970A-DS3 revisions support the FX 8350 (They support up to the FX 8300) so I can imagine that your CPU is being underclocked since it's not receiving enough power and you can't change that.
Over-clocking your CPU won't fix the issue. In fact, you're more likely to burn out your CPU and CPU socket.
I use a FX 8350 with a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev 4.0) and have no issues running games at max detail @ 60FPS (Also running an R9 290 and 16GB RAM)

You may want to consider upgrading your motherboard to one that supports the FX 8350.

I had that board and dumped it recently on eBay for $20. It throttled the heck out of my 6300. I didn't dare put my 8320 in it.

The Sabertooth R2 is the best board in most overclockers opinion to match with an 8320/8350.

Thanks for sending the other specs. I can definitely confirm that the CPU is not receiving enough power seeing as the rest of your spec is perfectly capable of running the latest games at high detail.

The ASUS Sabertooth boards are very good. It's a very good choice. The only reason I didn't go with Asus when upgrading my board is because I prefer the old school BIOS UI. That's the only reason haha

Hopefully your CPU hasn't been damaged by the time you switch boards.

Hi guys.sorry to post so late, but my new mobo just arrived today and i was busy changing it.after I installed windows first thing was to try a game.I tried Far cry 3 because I was sure I had problems with that game.i set all the graphics to ultra,1920x1080,v-sync 2 frames,5 GPU frames,8xmsaa,enhanced ground and ssao.I didn't had fraps but I would say it was running with 25 fps.and all clock speed at stock.I will try some other games see how is performing.

Far Cry 3 is a dodgy one as that game is horribly optimised for PC. I get roughly 45-60FPS (I should be getting at least 70+).

If you have them, I suggest testing on Crysis 3, BF3/BF4 and Tomb Raider.
Also, try Super Pi.
Great little CPU benchmark for calculating Pi.
Here's my results so you can base yours against mine.
(Note: My CPU usage was around 5% while performing these tests)

16K: 0.203 sec
32K: 0.375 sec
64K: 0.858 sec
128K: 1.872 sec
256K: 4.087 sec
512K: 10 sec
1M: 23.026 sec
I wouldn't suggest going higher than 1M.

Here are mines. My cpu usage went from 4% at fist 3 and for the rest went to 12-14%.
16k-0.187
32k-0.374
64k-0.842
128k-1.825
256k-4.025
512k-9.813
1m-22.526 sec.
Tomorrow i wil try the games you told me and make a list and post it her.Thank you very much

Here are some updates.Crysis 3.Everything maxed out and v-sync off.Stock clocks and first mission in Crysis 3.I got avg 20 fps.
Tomb raider.Everything maxed out,stock clocks:48 fps v-sync off
Battlefield 3 Everything maxed out, stock clocks 84 fps v-sync off
Is it performing good now?
