I have a HP Microserver G8 and would like to use it as a home server to act as a file server, media streaming, and backup. I'd also like to be able to access the files remotely using VPN. I'd like the server software to be easy to install / maintain; flexible; and inexpensive. Do you have any recommendations as to the best solution for me? I would appreciate any suggestions that you may have. Thank you in advance.

I've been looking at the Zentyal sever. It looks good for the home user and very modular so you can install those elements as you desire. Install Ubuntu desktop fist then Zentyal.
