I have had my notebook for a few months now and the processor has always been fast and reliable, and whenever I have monitored it, it runs at speeds of around 2.9 GHz in the "High Performance" power profile in Windows 8.

For some reason over the last couple of days, after running at startup, it defaults to a speed of 1.47 GHz, and wont budge higher even if I fully load it. All of the power settings are set to 100% performance, including the minimum processor speed. It is also running with the power supply unit plugged in. I have tried using the system restore feature in Windows to roll it back to an earlier point, and have also restarted the computer many times and run it in different power modes. No matter what I try it wont budge higher than 1.47 GHz!

Any helpful contributions would be gratefully received.

The screenshot shows two different analysis tools and the notebook's power settings.

It doesn't seem like a thermal problem at all from what you say.. If you have a warranty I would send it back. If not I would probably...

Ok I'll give that a look and get back to you. Mind you, the laptop is not hot at all (it never usually is tbh), and I have it on a cooling pad. When it does this it also becomes completely silent. Like I can notice the problem purely because of how silent it is.

Another thing - I managed to get it to stop temporarily by putting the BIOS back to default settings (although I have never changed the settings)... if this helps.
