Hey guys.

Here is my computer specs:

Mobo - ASrock Extreme 4-m
GPU - EVGA GTX 670
CPU - i5-3570k Stock no overclock
8gb ram
1tb HDD

With Dxtory I get a constant 30-40fps when recording, however it's as if there is FPS drop spikes.. For a few seconds my FPS will drop to around 20 and then go back up... this is a big thing as I make YouTube videos and want the quality to be high and smooth, but these FPS drop spikes make it look choppy.

I hope you can help. I record in-game footage for World of Warcraft btw.

Probably from trying to run your OS, the game and record the footage to the same hard drive is a big factor. When the recording cache gets full, it has to dump it to HD, which would cause spikes.

Also, whatever recording software your using may compress the video as it goes and this sucks up the CPU as well.

Recording a game in HD while playing the game is taxing on any system. This is why they make dedicated recording cards now for recording game video, as it takes the compressing and recording of the video off the CPU and on to the card.

I would try to run a game windowed while recording and have task manager open and try to watch for HD or CPU spikes when the FPS drops.
