First of all, I'm not sure where this thread should be.

Ok on to the topic at hand, my PC is wayy over the reccomend requirements for Sims 2 and 3 and various over games yet I have a stuttering problem in Sims 2 / 3. I have no problems with any of my other games such as FarCry3, FarCry3: Blood Dragon, Skyrim, GTA IV & EFLC, BFBC2. I can run these games perfectly fine on high settings, close to max, at 1366x768 and get framerates like 35-50fps.

Yet the Sims games seem to lag, my PC is perfectly capable, so why can't it run the sims games run without lagging? I get 140fps then it drops down and stutters rotating the camera or in ultra speed.

My specs are:

Intel Core i3 2130 @ 3.4GHz
8GB DDR3 Crucial 1333MHz RAM
XFX AMD HD 7770 Core GHz Edition 1GB
500W Pulse PSU
1TB Hard drive

Hope some can help, thanks

monitor your gpu and cpu usage when you rotate the camera, I assume it's because it's loading and rendering new data so the i3 is probably slowing you down in those instances. Or if it needs to load stuff from the hard drive it could cause that stutter.

I get the feeling that the sims is also not the best designed game as far as performance goes.

I don't get that though, GTA IV, the worst coded PC game ever, runs better than the Sims 2 and Sims 3. :/

How can it be the i3 causing the stuttering?

Sims 3 was designed with minimum requirements being an intel p4 and 7800gtx, you don't see this as minimum requirement in any recent games anymore so your rig being at least 5x better i would look at the driver you're using or try using vsync through ccc.

What driver version are you using and have you adjusted any settings in ccc?

I've left it all at standard. I think my drivers are at 13.4, I'll have to check as I'm currently not on my PC

I'm just throwing it out there, I know with the sims the more expansions you put on it the more sluggish it gets. Until you monitor you usage and see whats spiking we can't really tell you whats going on. Make sure all your drivers are up do date and you have the latest patches for the game.

I have the games updated to the latest patch, no expansions are installed on The Sims 3 but on The Sims 2 I have University, Nightlife, Open for Business and Pets installed.

How can Sims 2 be lagging when it came out in 2005 for goodness sake and the minimum requirement for the base game is an 800MHz CPU and my CPU is wayyyy over that. >.<
How can I monitor CPU usage?

You can use the windows task manager do monitor CPU usage, just go under the performance tab. To monitor gpu usage you can download and install GPUZ, it's free. It helps if you have a second monitor so you can see these while gaming but it's not entirely necessary.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. GTA EFLC stutters too, where as GTA IV doesn't.

Beginning to think I should upgrade my CPU

*EDIT*
I re-insatlled EFLC and started a new save, lag has gone in that game :/

However, Sims still lags. CPU usage is, on average, 60 and GPU is 77.
