The sound driver on this motherboard has been corrupted by a bad software install. Now it is very distorted under XP, W7 and also Linux. Reflash of BIOS and reload of sound drivers hasn't helped. It looks as if there might be double anti-phase drivers present as the L-R controls behave very oddly - the sound is best at 25% and 75% L-R balance and worst at 50-50 and there's no stereo image at all.

Yes I did and some mobo onboard are just bad quality or after a while it stops working properly. After reading a bit about your board, I found out other people had the same kind of problem and even other has the audio has stop working.

BTW, I repair computer for a living and have more than 20 years of experience. I also been helping on the forum for a while and, if you click on my profile, you will see all the badges I've got from helping out people.

Thank you come again

Well Dextermat
I'm afraid it turned out to be a short circuit in an external cable after all, and the software issue was a pure coincidence. That's why it was independent of the operating system.
Badges don't count for everything.
