I have a 2 yr old system that has been frequently crashing and or freezing up on me. I have mem86 test and burn in stress test to see if I can make it happen but I cannot. It seems to happen when the computer will sit idle for a few hours , then when i return, it will freeze up with no cursor or keyboard response, I then have to physically pull the plug to get it to shut down. I had a blue screen this morning also after it sat idle for a while, but I couldnt read what it said to see what the error was. I have updated all the drivers to the latest versions and also flashed the bios, but the problem is still happening. If it makes any difference I am running 4 monitors on this system, I use it as my work computer.. Any help steering me to solve this problem would be appreciated.. Thanks, Mike

The system I am running is :
Intel core I7 950 3.06 ghz
16gb ddr3 1600 corsair
asus p6x58d premium motherboard
corsair 750w power supply
128 gb Plextor SSD
600 gb WD HD
Dual Palit GTS450 1 gb video cards
Win 7 pro

How long between occurances? Maybe try removing 1 gfx card and see if you can reproduce the problem.

If your away from your computer for a while then you could setup a sleep timer to prevent the issue.

Also a defrag might be worth a shot. Vague problems like these are always difficult to solve. If you can get some kind of error code from the bluescreen it could be helpfull.

Best of luck!

It is sporadic on the occurrences, could be once a day, sometimes every 3 days. It seems as though it always happens after the screen saver was on. The problem was happening last week, and I thought the problem was due to power setting, so I have them set to never sleep. But obviously that hasn't solved it. Just a little more info, the problem has been going on sporadically for some time. Over the course of last week, I have replaced the SSD drive, bought new ram, updated all the drivers and bios to latest ones. I I installed bluescreenview, in the properties of the dump file it says this one was caused by dxgkrnl.sys . I rarely get the blue screen, it mostly just freezes and I cannot even start it back up, it will just sit at the windows startup screen, although I can boot it to safe mode. If i leave the computer off for a while them come back it seems to start up...
