I am in the process of building my new pc, and have purchased nearly all of my parts, still contemplating some things, GPU, OS, Etc.

And I am in a debate with my friend whether or not to get 8 or 16GB RAM.

He claims 16GB is overkill seeing as my PC will be strictly for gaming, and I somewhat agree.

But from some of the research I've done 16GB is still seeming like a better choice.

So any opinions are greatly appreciated.

if the 16G ram will prevent you from getting the better GPU (minimum of GTX 770 ) then yes it is a waste of money.

If Budget is no issue , 16G is the optimal today in PC .. and using 2x8G sticks will give you more space for future upgrades than 2x4G sticks.

but do you need it for gaming? the Answer is no. ...
