Windows image is located on my second hdd where i installed all my programs and files on it.
I have a new sdd to replace my old sdd due to capacity issue.

So i run the windows set up, with only the new sdd and second hdd connected, and retrieve the windows image on the hdd soi can use it on the sdd.
The problem is that does windows know which drive to use image on? And the second problem is that when i click finish, it warns me that all disks to be restored will be formatted and replaced. I might be overthinking this since it says disk to be restored, but i really do not want my second hdd to be accidently erased and formatted. Is this a problem or overthinking?

Didyou use windows BU to create the System image.
IF you did then you need to remove old SSD, connect new SSD.
If you used windows Backup you should have been prompted to create a Reair disk.

You simply boot to the repair disk (or to a windows Install DVD). Select repair then restore using an Image file.
Windows will ask where to intall (Select New SSD). then it will lok for the image. Normally this image is in the root directory of the HDD. If not found, use the broose.
It will just for GP Let you know that the target drive (New SSD) will loose all data - LOLs as for a New unformated SSD there is NO DATA!
If you used a 3rd party method to create image you will need to use that program.
OR
Just redo the Image using Windows 7 Backup. Go to control panl, select Ststem then backup. On left select create a system image.

Like i said only my new ssd and second hdd are connected now. The system image was created and was put in an external hdd which i moved to my second hdd because it didnt allow me to hse that hdd. I have a new problem.

It failed. It says the data disk is currently set as activr in bios. It says to set some other disks as active. How do i do this?

Do i need to install windows 7 first on the new sdd before doing the windows image?

Edit: updAte
I am using a windows 7 legit disk. Not a created one.

Edit2: it now says no disks that can be used cor recovering the system disk can be found. What does that mean?

Didn't see how you created the initial image that you tried to use to re-image new ssd.

Sounds like you got into a pickle and the SIMPLEST approach would be to:
1) Attach only the new SSD, DO not leave HDD attached.
2) insert Windows Install disk, boot to it and select custom install - on page showing Drives - select advance and DELETE all partitions. Then select the UNpartitioned SSD to do a clean install to.

Yea I keep forgetting that and I have 3 Samsung 830's and 2 Samsung 840 pro's Plus half doze other SSDs.
One Of the SSD came with Ez-Gig-II which works great for migrating OS to new SSD.
