I have a system I built in 2010 with only a 6gb kit of ocz ddr3 @ 1.65v and 8-8-8-24 timings. I got a kit of 6gb g skill @ 1.5v and 9-9-9-24 timings. I over clocked my i7 920 to 3.8ghz. I am wondering what needs to be changed in order to keep my overclock or if I should go buy a kit for either 1.65 or 1.5v ram

I'd stick with 1.5 if they are 1600, 1.65 is too much voltage for 1600 sticks. There are a lot of sticks made even today that are 1600 at 1.65 but generally it's indicative of weak ICs (memory chips), that being 'why' would they need that much voltage? Generally you see 1.65 in high freq sticks like 1.65 and above and basically 1600/CL9 is entry level in todays systems

Best bet would be a single set of the total amount of DRAM you want to run....next best would prob be to get another et of the 1.5 GSkill sticks, from the sounds of this, am guessing they are 1600 sticks and actually not a good idea to run 1600 at 1.65

Ok I got both sets to run at 1600 @ 1.6 just testing for stability right now. So far so good but I still have 24 more hours to go since I do prime95 for 24 hrs to test
