Hi, first computer build and was going to purchase a Radeon 7870 for $230 but then noticed sale on 2x Radeon 7790 for $210.

Haven't commited to purchasing any parts yet but was originally planning to use:
Motherboard - Asrock B85M-PRO4
Processor - intel i5 4570 (not k)
PSU - antec 620W HCG

So first off, is the xfire worth it? and second, as a first time builder, do I need to change anything with my motherboard / PSU / cooling / other stuff?

Solution
Get the single 7870. You will not have the crossfire driver issues.
For 1080p I find this card pretty damn good. Will play most games on ultra. Crysis 3 on almost full ultra. Just tone back a few shading to HIGH and tessellation from Ultra to high. and you will be good to go at 1080p.
Where will you be buying your parts from? Are you in the USA?

I live in australia and would be buying from either ebay or mwave. Yea i heard that a single good graphics card is usually better than two lower quality ones, my dilemma was mainly based upon the major discount with the 2x 7790 being $20 cheaper than when it should rightfully cost about $100 more (aus pricing -.-).

But if you think it'll be really annoying to get the xfire working then i'll get the 7870.

Nvidia cards in australia seem to be pretty expensive, the cheapest gtx 760 i could find was $300 which i don't really think is worth it. (radeon 7950 is $295)

Prefer to spend under $250 for graphics card but its not a hard budget.

Honestly, I started building this comp for my brother cause hes got a 6 year old comp thats pretty bad (he games but ain't really a hardcore gamer). I'm putting all this extra stuff in his comp cause reading about the different hardware actually turned out pretty interesting and partly due to the large infrequency in which we get new computers.

So in short, trying to make a future proof, bang for buck computer.

(no idea what resolution he'd like but with his current comp he hasn't had much choice)
