I've never used two cards before but i'm very tempted to try this set up for the 1st time now. Currently i'm using a HIS ice Q 6950 2gb in my new rig. I was thinking of buying a new card like a GTX 760 or a 7950 or 7970 but then I found another exact HIS ice Q 6950 like the one i'm using for $130 shipped.

Please forgive my ignorance, and I also know I can google this stuff out. What are the benefits of crossfire? Are the loading times going to increase dramatically? What do I need to do besides connecting the two cards with that little crossfire bridge thing? Do I need to adjust the BIOS? I'm not expecting a lot of heat as this card runs pretty cool (so far).

Anyways, i'm open to suggestions but I think I can equal or surpass the performance of the cards I mentioned at half the price of them.

Crossfire is enabled though CCC so nothing in the bios, adding a second card doesnt double performance, but it increases it by a solid 80%. So an 80 percent gain over a new card, you can see what you might need. Crossfire wont affect load times, thats the cpu, it will allow you to get increased fps. If you are getting say 30 fps on ultra in a game, you can expect 50-55 fps.

Since you will be doing CF, you will be plagued with micro-stutter. But AMD has been working on a fix for sometime, and has just released a beta driver that most reviews say pretty much resolves the issue.

Be sure to also download/install the Application Profiles after you install the driver.

But before you do anything, un-install the existing driver first. To make it easy, AMD has provided a Catalyst Uninstall Utility.
