power supply electricity consuption

Hello guys i have 600w power supply and was wondering that is it constantly sucking 600 watt from the socket or only using the electricity that my pc needs.?

If the power supply was 100% efficient (none currently exist), it would pull exactly the amount your computer would need. However, since the power supply is not 100% efficient, it will pull the amount you need and a bit more as waste heat.

And this amount of surplus draw is based on your PSU designated wattage and current system load. PSU is less efficient when working at half or less of it's designated load. And that is another reason to buy PSU you need and not something two times higher.
