Computer completely unresponsive after sleep mode.

I have a strange problem. I have windows 7 installed, and recently, about 90% of the time when I put the computer to sleep, it refuses to boot afterwards.
It doesn't crash or anything, it just refuses to respond. The keyboard and mouse don't cause it to wake up, and pressing the power button yields no results whatsoever (no lights, no fans, nothing).

The strange thing is, even if I disconnect and reconnect the power cable (or switch the PSU on and off) I get nothing at all. I have to actually leave it disconnected for a while (the shortest I've tried was over an hour), for it to respond to the power button.

Another thing: if I choose to shut down the computer instead of putting it to sleep, everything seems to be fine and it boots perfectly well (But I've only tried that twice).

I am truly at a loss. Thanks for your help!
