Okay so I currently have a 32bit version of Windows 7 installed and I want to install the 64 bit version. Can I just pop in the disc during boot and install it if I don't mind re-installing my drivers and programs? Will harm my computer in any way?

You will have to take backup of files. And DO a fresh install. you can't proceed like that. And you will have to reinstall drivers again.
