[Please read entire post before replying as i have tried many things already]

Hi, i have been having an issue for a while now with my pc. sometimes it "blue screens" on me, does not give me time to read anything on it, and on startup it POSTs 2 long 1 short... cannot find that POST code anywhere on gigabytes support and they are no help at all(I dont think they know whats wrong)... i am suspecting it is indeed the motherboard cuz it happens when i have more than one stick of ram in, but all the knowledge i have is from personal experience, so i dont know the technical hardware stuff. i have gone through a few sticks of different brands now. But i can use any one stick in any slot i choose.. if i have more than one stick in, it POST's with 2 long 1 short, that's two, 2 second beeps, and one, 1 second beep(yes i stopped watched them) if i keep just one in, it boots fine most of the time but it will randomly... and i mean randomly out of no where blue screen and beep at me till i take the ram out, and put it back, along with unplugging the 24 pin power from the motherboard and reconnecting it after doing both of those things it usually runs fine for weeks...i know im baffled... i tested with memtest on all ram sticks they are all ok. timing and voltage is correct, i changed cpu's, graphics card and power supply since then and it still happening though it took it months to do it after i upgraded i thought it was gone, i even got so fed up with it before i posted this that i started wiggling wires to see if any of them was causing it, nothing happened not even a restart. i honestly dont know why im posting this my motherboards probably damaged somewhere.. this is my last resort.. is my GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 rev 2.0 broken? do i need to invest in a new mobo? cuz this one still runs most new games very smoothly on high... i just cant put more RAM IN! any info is greatly appreciated.

Solution
Oh yeah, bdiddy......I've tried diagnosing these till I'm blue in the face.....
I've come across two things (so far) that have actually solved this, and I never figured out the exact reason why it worked.
1. Check/change the CMOS battery. I have noticed that a low or dead battery will cause a host of strange, intermittent errors.
2. Check the PSU - if it's full of dust (especially the fan) or just getting old, it may be putting out less power than it used to, and/or
the output may be fluctuating.
I'm hoping you don't have an FSB issue....

Good luck, hope this helps!

Can you list your full system specs please? Assuming you are using Windows 7, to get the BSOD to stay on the screen, you need to disable the automatic reboot after BSOD error. Here is a quick step by step: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/help-troubleshoot-the-blue-screen-of-death-by-preventing-automatic-reboot/ Next time you get a BSOD, record the error codes you get and we can go from there.

That is a RAM error stop code. I'm assuming you are using Windows 7? Have you run Memtest to check and see if your RAM is bad? Have you tried just running with one stick of RAM at a time to see if you still get the error?

Here is the link to the memtest software: http://www.memtest86.com/

yes i've done memest, yes, i bought new ram 3 times, each slot works individually and each ram stick i bought works individually... it sometimes happens when i have one stick in and it happened again and did not display the bluescreen for long but it was long enough to show me the error code had completely changed from the last one

i actually changed the cmos battery and it booted fine ran better than it does when i reformat! lol and i now have more than one stick of ram in and it seems to be running fine, i left it on all night no crashes at all so far. Thanks for all the advice! I'm glad i only had to spend 5 bucks instead of 300, and im looking to spend around 300 for a new mobo and cpu

That is so awesome lol, goes to show it is best to try EVERY possible solution before caving in and replacing stuff :-D Best place for CPU motherboard combo deals is Microcenter. So if you do decide to upgrade in the future, check to see if you have one in your area, they have the best CPU prices anywhere and usually bundle with great discounts on motherboards as well. Glad all the contributions here were able to get things back up and running for you! Good Luck!
