Hi guys, i'm building a gaming computer (first build) and i am having some trouble choosing a CPU.

I have a Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard and want to get a AMD FX-8 9370 Black Edition 8 Core AM3+ 4.4GHz CPU.

On Scan.co.uk the CPU was recommended to be used with a motherboard which has a 990FX chipset, the Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 does have a AM3+ socket but has a AMD 760G (780L)/SB710 chipset

will this be compatible?

Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 (AM3+ Socket)
Chipset: AMD 760G (780L)/SB710
Desired CPU: AMD FX-8 9370 Black Edition 8 Core AM3+ 4.4GHz

No it won't

From asus's website

"Supports CPU up to 140 W"

From AMD's website

"Power Wattage: 220 W"

That chip is too powerful for that board and is only meant for a select few top of the line motherboards that can handle a 220W CPU.

Really, go for the 8350 chip instead. WAAAAAY less power usage, get a good cooler and overclock to over 4GHZ anyways with 80W less power.
