Hey guys, I'm in the process of building a new computer and I want to get a three monitor setup. There's so many graphics cards out there I just do not know what to pick for my build. I have two questions. First, what would be the best card out there for a three monitor setup and second, what would be a great card for around 500 bucks. If anybody could help me out with this it would be great, thanks :D

Solution

What exact type of 1300W PSU :3? Yes, I would go for the 7970 6GB linked. Can you link the full proposed specs such as the exact monitor PSU, case etc, I am sort of OCD on...

The GTX 770 4GB or 7970 6GB are good options for around $500. The 7970 does have more VRAM if you plan on playing on 2 or all 3 monitors, EYEFINITY is also very nice and they are monsters when you crossfire them in the future thanks to 13.8 fixing the issues (Make sure to use a 6GB card and not a 3GB card when you pair them up in XFire). GTX 760 SLI is also a nice option, albeit with a bit small VRAM for triple monitor gaming.

thanks for the help guys :D so lets say once the newer games this year come out like bf4, do you guys think two 760's could handle that on 3 monitors while keeping a decent frame rate or do you think it would be worth throwing in some extra cash to get a better card and possibly run sli on that?

I would go for the 7970 6GB or 4GB GTX 770. Just a note, BF4 is optimized for AMD and the 7970 does has a lot of VRAM. The 2GB in the 760 SLI isn't exactly the best for full triple monitor gaming. You can Crossfire the 6GB 7970 or SLI the 770s later (absolute monster on triple monitor) or perhaps wait for the 9970 supposedly alongside BF4.

That sounds great but one thing I forgot to mention is right now I already have an intel processor I bought for my new rig. So far I've just bought a few things piece by piece as I get the money for it and was stuck on a graphics card to get. Is there any card equivalent to the 7970 that could run with an intel setup?

The 7970 works with the Intel setup :p What is your full specs? Just remember to get the same exact 7970 when you crossfire in the future, don't crossfire it with a 3GB one, or you will be limited to 3GB on both cards. You can also crossfire dual 3GB 7970s for $600.

oh really? :D lol shows what I know X__X so far I've just bought a nice new monitor ( still need the other two), power supply, mobo and processor. I had originally planned on doing just a one monitor setup but then kind of changed my mind and wanted to go all out and get three monitors going. but right now I've got this mobo and processor.

along with a 1300 watt power supply.

so you think the 7970 would be the way to go here then?

Can you link the full proposed specs such as the exact monitor PSU, case etc, I am sort of OCD on this stuff :p If you don't have it planned out, I can help you choose your next parts on how much you expect to spend by BF4's release.

^^ I was going to go with this memory when I had originally planned only using one monitor. Since I will be getting 3 do you think I should get a little more memory?

I wanted to get a 128gb ssd harddrive as well that was a tb or two on another regular harddrive

and by the way, thanks again for all the help! I really appreciate it ^__^

8GB is more than enough. Get this SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147192 Best of luck, can you post pics when the build is done? This PSU is be a better option, the Rosewill one has mixed reviews, with some failing after short periods of time: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151105&Tpk=Seasonic%201000

yeah good call there. After I read through the reviews a bit myself That PSU makes me a little nervous lol.

So could a 1000w psu run this thing no problem or do you think it would be a better idea to spend a bit more and get a power supply that is a little more powerfull?
