Hi there guys -

I bought a laptop off eBay a few months back and have been using it ever since - a few weeks using it I found little dots on the screen either a lime green colour or a magenta colour - it wasnt so bad at first and only happened when I had been on for a few hours or so so it didnt really bother me but it has not got progressively worse - to the point where I cant even bother to play games so I just connect to a TV via HDMI and the problem does not seem to exist there - The laptop is a HP ENVY 1050ea - This laptop also has a known heating issue but none of this model have this problem (Can't even find a person with this problem). Here are a few photos of what I am talking about --

As you can see from the photos it kind of follows the picture follows the way of the picture or the image displayed on screen - not just randomly --

Display driver is to its latest update - tried disabling it and uninstalling and no difference there --

Also seems to get worse the hotter the laptop gets

Thank you in advance for just having a look - kind of desperate to resolve this now.

grab hwmonitor and check your temperatures, sounds like its an overheating problem.

The pictures look like memory corruption which could happen if there was an over heating issue for sure. It does not have to be the GPU memory it could be the CPU causing it.
What exactly do you mean when you say its ok hooked up to a TV ? Can you game on the TV ok ?

Processor - all 4 cores average 84*C

GPU - Average 76 -- min 75 -- max 77

Is this normal?

Hi Mactronic, well when I hook up to the HDTV it is perfectly fine - no dots none of the them green dots or anything - perfectly normal how it should be - this isnt displaying on the actual laptop screen just the TV screen

If it is a memory corruption is there anything I could do or am I in a sticky situation?

use compressed air and/or a vacuum cleaner and stick it in the vents to try clear any dust in the heatsink, if it doesnt bring the temps down a lot then the thermal compound most likely needs replacing on the CPU and GPU.

Unfortunately its about the same temperatures but them green dots have gone so I'm guessing if I keep the GPU under 70 then I can possibly get away with it - thanks for your help I think im going to sell it as spares and repairs or something - thankyou guys

CPU is running hot, as said try and clean out any air vents. Depending on the age of the Laptop its possible your thermal paste is not performing as well as it could be. The GPU is about where I would expect it to be.
Re applying the thermal paste is somewhat easier on a desktop PC a laptop is very difficult to strip down and put back together again.
Its pretty basic but using a desktop fan to help with the air circulation around the unit can sometimes help as well.
