Hi,

I'm in the process of upgrading my Dell E510's operating system to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, from Win XP SP3 32-bit. This is a first-time endeavor.

According to the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, the installed Radeon X300 SE 128MB Hypermemory display device is not compatible for the upgrade. So, now comes the daunting task of finding a graphics card that will get me "over the hump". Budget in mind, less than $100.

...and this is where I seek your advice and/or suggestions.

I have a 500W Antec power supply (installed 2 yrs. ago), should the graphics card need this power source. Installed RAM will be four (4) 1GB modules.

Your replies will be awaited, and thank you in advance.

Don't upgrade to ultimate. Home premium is all you need. For a card, the HD 7750 radeon is around $100-110 and is the best card at that price.

Hi, markwp
I've decided to go with Home Premium 64-bit, as your response prompted me to look deeper into the Ultimate version's specs. Thank you! With respect to the E510 tower's internal space, will your suggested card fit? Needless to say, this is all relatively new to me.

You can find the card in both single and dual slot (both only require once pci e connector - the dual slot just has a larger fan that sticks out). The card is only about 9" long and 4 1/2" tall, so there should be no problems.

Thanks, again markwp! As explained, I simply need what is necessary to transition this pc to Windows 7. My E510's primary purpose is in using the MS Office suite; very well-maintained overall, since 10/2006, a replacement video card will be its last hardware upgrade. Although I have a new laptop, I thoroughly enjoy the "stretch-out" of a desktop. Salute.
