What to select as first boot device for dell inspirion 531.Gives choice of hard disk or CD ROM. I have no disk and don't want to lose what is on computer.

Most folks have the optical drive as the first boot device in case they want to boot to a CD/DVD. If there is no (bootable) disk in the optical drive, the BIOS will move on to the 2nd boot device which should be your HDD.
