My friend plugged a 19V power supply into an external hard drive, and then plugged it into his computer. And yeah now the computer won't boot lol. It's a hackintosh build, and he says it will post and get to the apple logo, but won't go any further. Any ideas on what may have happened?

Solution
overvoltage = instant damage
harddisks run at 3.3v and 5.5v 19-5.5= 13.5 more than required

i think the data saved on it still safe only the board/ spindle motor is fried

But isn't the external hard drive being powered by the 19V power supply and NOT USB, thus the computer shouldn't be receiving any 5V current through USB, but is rather using the USB port only for data transfer?
