Windows 8 isn't as bad as people says. Yes the start menu is replaced with the Metro and so on but after using Windows 8 for a couple months now, I really like it.

The search is faster, booting is significantly faster even with a HDD and you would get use to metro after a few weeks. General usage and gaming is on par are a little bit better than windows 7 as well. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/windows-8-gaming-performance,3331.html

If I was to chose, I would use Win8 just because of the Boot time itself. On a desktop I would boot in around 7s while on a laptop, 15s is the most.

BTW, Microsoft is going to release an updated version which will return the Start Menu for those Win7 users and all the more reason to keep the OS.

I have Win8 on all my computers now, works as a charm. Tons or free launchers and paid ones you can use if you google some, pick the one you want and it looks like win7 + you get all benefits from Win8

Metro aside, windows 8 has some nice updates and added in features.

If you don't like metro I strongly suggest these programs to give you the start menu back in Windows 8:

Start Is Back:
http://www.startisback.com/

Start8:
http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/

Start Is Back is a little faster and more responsive. But Start8 Is a little more customizable, and has a few extra features.

I think they've made it clear that metro isn't going away. But hopefully they'll have an option to disable it in Windows 9, but I doubt it.
