nope, 6GB is a big waste of money if gaming, even at this res. go with a 3GB card.

More memory MIGHT come in handy in the future. But the 7970 Vapor-X card you mentioned above performs on par with a GTX 680 which is not enough to run games like Crysis 3 at 2560 x 1440 resolution and max settings. The 7970 and GTX 680 can't max out the game even at 1920 x 1080 resolution.
Take a look at this:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crysis-3-performanc...

Note that they have set the motion blur to medium & they have reduced the AA to 2x SMAA.

You will need a GTX 780 as the minimum if you want to play upcoming games at 2560 x 1440 resolution & high settings.

It's not the memory that you should be worried about, but the processing power of that GPU.

But if 1080P resolution is ok for you, you are fine with that card.

Or you can buy the GeForce GTX 760 MSI TwinFrozr Gaming OC Edition & save some money. This card performs almost as good as the 7970. It's around 12% slower than the card you mentioned.

I agree. I think with gaming now and in the near future, for a single monitor, even with 1440p, 3GB is the sweet spot. If it was 2GB then that might be pushing it but to me 3GB will be more then enough for at least the next 4 years. Personally I wouldn't be surprised to see it become the new standard.

OP, keep in mind with a single monitor and a 3GB GPU you will easily run out of memory bandwidth well before 3GB becomes an issue. In fact at this point you would have to go out of your way to use more then 3GB of VRAM.

@OP: if you want to play games in high setting's then a cheap option would be getting a 7970 and OC it to Ghz level. it will save you 40-50 bucks. but you want to play ulrta on 1440p then like crypto92 said, 780 would be a great card.

and just so you know if you aren't using a triple monitor setup then you should never pick card's over 2-3GB of memory. anything over 3GB is a massive waste as games don't generally use over 2GB of Vram in single 1080p-1440p setup, even if its maxed out,, so your just wasting the extra money for extra vram. if you are using 2-3 monitor setup then that extra 1GB will come in handy.

@caj read the last page. it say's 6GB helps in certain workload's but not in gaming, even at 1440p res. so that extra 3GB will go to waste, unless a triple monitor setup, but i doubt the card has enough power to completely use 4GB.

agreed with you point. thats why i mentioned what settings & setup support you plan to use it on. it might look like a future proof option but heck..new gpus get released every year with better features. :)

so the bottom line is if he is gaming at 1440p he should just get a 7970 and OC it, or just get the G.E if he is too lazy to OC...

for starters you processor is tad overkill along with the motherboard. you dont need a lga2011 motherboard unless u doing server work or extreme photo rendering or video. 32 gb is way too much tooo...you could run 16gb & well still be more then enough satisfied.liquid cooling is a matter of personal choice. may i suggest if you are doing heavy duty settle for a good z87 1150 socket motherboard & either a i7-4770k or a i5-4670k. the remaing money saved, may i suggest perhaps a gtx 780. ssd 250 gb is again overkill...sweet spot i reccomend is 120
