Strange antivirus/antispyware issue

Have had Win8 installed since shortly after release, but recently had a strange problem crop up. Windows Defender suddenly will not load, and computer now block any and all downloads as a detected virus. Any ideas how to fix?

Didn't work. Though I at least have an active antispyware/malware/virus solution, I still can't download ANYTHING. I can open stuff sent in email, but can't download the same item in a web interface. Anything I get to by using IE10 fails. Thoughts?
