Do you guys think it's now a good buy that AMD just lowered the price of this GPU to $700? My buddy is planning to get a pair of this and crossfire it, rather than getting dual 780's for the same price.

that would essentially be a quad-XFire, which IMO is never a good idea

I'm pretty sure the 2 7990's will give a better performance, but apparently a quad CFX setup (as 2x 7990 will be) tend to suffer from a lot of micro stuttering, which will affect your framerate.
7990's will consume more power. I'd recommend a 1200W PSU for these, while 850-1000W will suffice for the 780's.

I would go with the dual 780's, but that's a personal opinion, I just have had a better overall experience with nvidia.

I just heard recently that AMD just released a new driver that fixes all that stuttering issues with the 7990. I'm just wondering if that would also fix the temperature issues that tomshardware talked about regarding their review on dual 7990's. My buddy has a quality PSU (EVGA Supernova G2 1000W 80 plus gold) so I think it will suffice if ever.

the PSU will suffice, that;s not a problem, but the new driver fixes the issues for dual-GPUs and that too only partially, quad GPU will leave u with micro-stuttering even if u go NVidia

to me it seems best bang for buck with 8 games free but you definetly need a good psu. their cf is fixed in 13.8 beta drivers so well if you attempt to crossfire these cards will consume around 700w of ur psu.
