Computer has a mind of its own.

Hi All

I have recently built myself a new computer. Whilst I am not new to this it has me stumped. It works find on everything. Applications, Movies and internet etc. However when I load a game it just drops back to the start and loads windows again. No blue screen no nothing just a restart.

My system is.
AMD FX 8350
HYDRO H60 COOLER
ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0
MSI GTX 670 OC POWER EDITION
16gb Kingston hyper x 1600mhz 1.65v 9-9-9-24 ram (4x4gb)
FRACTAL R4 CASE
BLU RAY DRIVE
DVD DRIVE
2 X 140MM FANS AS INTAKE ON FRONT
2 X 120MM FANS ON TOP AS EXHAUST
(ALL THE SAME FANS)
1 X 128GB OCZ SATA 3 SSD (OS)
1 X 1TB SATA 3
1 X 500GB SATA 3
1 X 3TB SATA 3.

Everything is new apart from the psu which is an old cit 950w cheapo one.

Iam leaning towards this being the reason it keeps doing it but not sure.

So far i have tried
Reinstalling the games/windows
updated the bios
memtest86
rana memtest and chkdsk on all drives
re applied thermal paste to everything
and all checks out.

Nothing is overheating and no screen is showing me any errors.

I really need help

PS. The games are anno 2070 and Coh2. Thanks

More about computer mind
  1. 100% psu. The graphics card is surviving on the minimal sufficiency the psu can provide while surfing/gpu unrelated apps. The minute it begins to draw power it requires for more gpu intensive programs it trips the psu/restarts the motherboard.

Get a quality psu this time round, don't risk destroying the system as you've been very lucky up until now. Seasonic or Corsair would be my recommendations, an TX 750w will suit your rig nicely.
  2. Lol i thought it was. Its been racking my head all night. Been waking up in cold sweats. LOL! OJ. Would a corsair cx750m be any good? Also been looking at the ocz zt 750 or an antec. Only got about £100 to spend on psu so whats the best i can get for my money. i definately want over 700w and an 80+ cert one.

they will be fine, OCZ, Antec. Search for reviews or user recommendations for those through google. From what read, the Corsair CX is the bottom end, entry level psu's while the TX is toward the upper bracket along with their top tier AX models. Also the TX and onwards supply modular cables, connecting cables to devices only in use.

Antec make good psus, wouldn't be in the same league as OCZ, Corsair or Seasonic but will be a much improvement over a cheapish no brand psu.
  4. I have gone with the hx750 pro 80+ gold. No point in trying to save money when its killing my comp! Thanks for the help ill let you all know if it solves issues when it arrives.
