PC freezes at BIOS screen after installing new video card

Hi All,

I am getting a peculiar problem after installing a new graphic card.
After using onboard graphics for a year, I purchased a new “ZOTAC GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost” card and installed it in my motherboard’s PCIe 2.0 x16 slot.

Before installing the card I updated the BIOS with the latest version and disabled the integrated graphics and selected PCI in the BIOS.

It worked perfectly fine at the first time, I played “Crysis”, “The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim” and “DmC - Devil May Cry” for like 4 to 5 hrs. The next day my PC froze at BIOS screen while displaying post message. None of these happens when I use my onboard graphics :(

I removed the card and cleaned the PCIe slot and installed the card again, everything worked fine. I rebooted and checked, everything was working fine. Next day the same problem.
I started troubleshooting, removed everything except a single RAM, processor, GPU and keyboard. It got past the BIOS POST and displayed message Hard disk not found. Then I switched off the PC and again switched on after 5-6 hr. Same problem :(

I goggled and tried all the solutions for 3 days, Then I found a workaround. Whenever my system stuck, I’ll change the 2nd RAM (I am having 2 RAM), to other DIMM slot (Corsair Ram in slot1 and Kingston Ram in slot 3 in duel channel setup), everything will works fine then, my system will stuck again when I start it in the next morning, so I’ll move the 2nd RAM back to the old slot (Corsair Ram in slot1 and Kingston Ram in slot 2 in single channel setup), and everything will work.

So in order to use my GPU, I have to toggle my RAM from slot to other or I have to make some hardware changes.

It seems that when my BIOS finds a hardware change, It scans for the hardware and it won’t stuck. But the next morning if I won’t change any hardware my system will stuck

I tried everything, resetting BIOS, changing display cable (tried DVI and AVI), using single RAM module but nothing worked. I don’t think these is any issue with the driver, RAM or my PSU, as system is getting stuck at BIOS while displaying POST message. Once I get inside Windows 7 or Windows XP (I am having Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP), my system is perfectly stable. I can play games and surf net for however long I want.

My system configuration is:
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), 3.2GHz
ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO/U3S6 motherboard with latest bios (BIOS Date: 07/23/10 17:10:34 Ver: 21.05)
Corsair DDR3 2 GB (1 x 2 GB) PC RAM (VS2GB1333D3)
Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G – SP (1 x 2 GB)
Cooler Master Thunder 450W
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
AOC 22 moniter connected with DVI cable

Please help......

Update:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I removed my Dual Boot Installation of Windows 7 and XP and installed Windows 8. Also I enabled fast boot in bios disabling most of the Startup checks.
Now my PC is working fine since I am getting into windows in 4-5 sec. But when I try to get into BIOS or press F8 to get boot menu, my PC will freeze again. Also my PCIe slot seems fine. I checked it using my friends HD 4850 GPU. Everything works fine with this old GPU.

Is there any incompatibility issue with my AMD motherboard and NVidia GPU?

Well... because Windows 8 boots faster than any of the previous versions of Windows, so at least now I am able to boot into windows before getting stuck at startup...

There is a slightly newer bio's for this motherboard http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&... I built a friend a gaming pc once with this motherboard back when they had this big newegg bundle deal, he had somewhat similar issues but what we ended up doing was disabling smart check from the bio's if you are able to get in
