Hi,

I would really appreciate someone's help on this.
All I want to know is - will this mobo and CPU hinder the 670 at all? I understand the 670 needs an pci 3.0 but will have to run on a 2.0. Will this matter??

technically, yeah it will hinder it, but you would never be able to tell the difference outside of benchmarking scores. Assuming you are gaming, those two are a fine combo. by the way, PCIe is completely backwards compatible. so if you have 2 components and they run at different speeds, they will both just run at the slower speed. so your 3.0 card will run at 2.0 speeds, which will not realistically impact performance.

I think your CPU won't be a problem for modern gaming; it's a capable quad core and will probably last for another year or so.

As far as I know PCI 2.0 and 3.0 show very little to no performance discrepancy for gaming purposes (Confirmation: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/07/18/pci_express_2...) and should run fine with a 670.

That being said if you're worried, the H77-D3H is affordable and comes comes with PCI-e 3.0 and a LGA-1155 socket.

I believe he would still need an Ivy bridge processor to run the PCIe 3.0, correct.

That is correct. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

Thanks for your answers guys.
I know on my z77-D3H I can only run PCI 2.0 on a sandy bridge. Which is why I wondered about the PCI 3.0 vs 2.0. I would be wanting to play all of the latest games for the next year or two (BF4, Watchdogs etc).

Looking at Nico641's link it seems there can be a bit of a difference on occasions. But prob not enough for me to worry about!

Thanks again!
