Windows freezes about 2 seconds after desktop loads?

So I just finished building my system and I install all drivers and everything is working fine and smooth, then after I install Steam and click log in, that's when my pc freezes and so I tried restarting my pc and every time I restart , it freezes after about 2 seconds once the desktop goes in.

Does anyone know what's wrong?

I found out it was my avast free antivirus.

I uninstalled it from safe mode and there is no more freezing.

Does this mean I can't use avast then?

Thanks I downloaded AVG, its weird though because all of my previous computers I've always used avast,but with this new build avast freezes so idk.
