Random freezes and Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding

Hello everyone,

I've been getting random display freezes for a while now, sometimes having to restart the computer completely. Recently I've gotten the error "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." The audio continues functioning perfectly and my CPU is basically idle. I've also replaced my PSU to see if that was the issue and it is not. So obviously this is something graphics related. I've tried blowing out the dust to no avail, so my question is: Is it safe to leave my GPU (GTX 460 SE) for a couple of months to wait for a black Friday sale, or should I replace it ASAP?

Thanks in advance!

first do a clean install of 314.22. That is the most stable driver. Since the 700 series cards came out the newer driver are problamatic.

Yeah I just did about an hour ago, started freezing up a bit a little while after.

Use driver sweeper before you do a reinstall.

I have seen similar problem with "nvlddmkm stopped responding".

After checking errors I found that there's malware doing some kind of bitcoin work, which makes graphic card to work too busy.

I did removal of that malware with Panda Cloud Cleaner (free).

Maybe your problem isn't similar, but I think it's worth trying.

I had the same issue with my msi 660ti pe, might want to try to place the card in a diffrent pci-e slot. Had constant crashes and freezes. Haven't had any issues since switching to bottom pci-e slot.
