I don't know anything about graphics cards; I have very low specs on my computer, so I don't want to just buy a graphics card and have it be incompatible with my system. What is the minimum graphics card I can get that will work with my system and be able to run Minecraft at a reasonable framerate? I have a low budget, so I can't buy anything that's really good.

Specs:

    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    Intel Celeron CPU 2.8GHz
    2 GB RAM
    Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family

Well to be quite honest, your specs are terrible.

Your RAM is low
Your CPU is slow
I hope you atleast have a PCI-E slot
Your chipset leaves very little room for upgrades

For reference, my Core 2 Duo + Radeon 6670 can hit 150 FPS on stock minecraft.

What is your motherboard and power supply?

Target budget and country? (It helps with vendors)

I know my specs are terrible; the computer was only 50 bucks. ;)  I do have a PCI slot.

How would I find motherboard and power supply? Doesn't seem to be in dxdiag or system info. My target budget is $20-$30, and I am in the US.

Just take the cover off and read the label on the power supply and the part number off the motherboard.

I wanted to say your close to the minimum specs, not great, but a step up from terrible.

Minimum Requirements:
CPU : Intel P4/NetBurst Architecture or its AMD Equivalent (AMD K7)
RAM : 2GB
GPU : Intel GMA 950 or AMD Equivalent with OpenGL 1.2 Support
HDD : At least 90MB for Game Core and Sound Files
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 or up is required to be able to run the game.
Note software requirement:
Java (Java SE 6 Update 32 or Java SE 7 Update 4 or newer is preferred)
Please note that some users experience issues playing Minecraft while using a mismatched version of Java for their operating system (32 or 64 bit), while using certain versions of Java 7, or while multiple versions of Java are installed

I don't think it would be playable with Intel GMA950. I had it on the previous motherboard and it was truly awful. Could barely play neverball at 800x600 with 30fps.

Was not even playable at 1024x768.

Normally I would recommend something like a Radeon 6450 but AMD cards sometimes have issues with ancient motherboards with PCI-E 1.0.

What about a Geforce 210?
Your onboard graphics get a "3" on passmark: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Intel+829... LOL

There are AGP slots, PCIe or (PCI Express) and PCI slots.

If you have an PCIe slot, a decent card would be GT 610 for $26.99
(refurbished)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

It has Core Clock of 810 MHz and 48 Cuda cores and 1Gb of DDR3 Vram, a pretty good card for the money.

It beats the 8400 GS on every metric, Core Clock 520 MHz and 8 Cuda Cores and 512 MB of DDR2 Vram

You did not say if you use Monitor is VGA or DVI, but if it is VGA you would need a little converter.

I have a VGA moniter, and I THINK that I have PCI slots, not PCIe, but I'm not sure.

If you have PCI slots and not PCIe i would reccomend a new MoBo.. But anyways i would suggest you to buy the GFX card first to check if you have the right slots!

Download Belarc, install and run and tell us the motherboard and we can tell you what slots you have on the motherboard

Just looking for the motherboard model (part number)
