Hello, like the title says, I want to add an internal SSD to my computer and would like to know if I will they will try to make me purchase a new OS because of this. I plan on using my HDD for storage and my SSD for the OS and major programs, can somebody walk me through the basics of setting up an SSD or point me in the right direction? I don't mind my files on the HDD getting wiped because I have an external drive I will be copying important files to prior! Please help! Thanks

Ohhh I see, well I do have the OEM version but since I'm not changing motherboards I shouldn't have to buy a new OS? Also, when I put my SSD in, I have to set it as the boot drive and do I delete the OS on my old HDD first or will it work itself out? I'm confused as to the transition between having my OS on an HDD and then on the SSD.

Oh really? How would I format it in the HDD if the OS is on both the SSD and the HDD though? Would I just "uninstall" the OS on my HDD once it's on the SSD? Sorry to bug you, I'm a complete beginner when it comes to this and my PC is brand new so I am very nervous about doing this!

You would go into file manager/windows explorer and highlight everything then hold down shift and hit the delete key (shift delete bypasses the system putting the files into the recycle bin)

I would not delete everything until you are 200% sure there is no data you needed left on the hdd. Like game saves, browser favorites, documents, mail , as well as the normal pics, videos, music...

You can clone your HDD to your new SSD. Then all you have to do, is install the SSD into the same port that the HDD was in and you are done. I have a fully updated windows 7 on a HDD and I have had to use it a couple of times to re-load windows on my SSD. I experiment and do things that I probably shouldn't and corrupt my OS at times. The windows on the cloned SSD will be fully activated. At least my clones are. Plug your HDD into another port and format if you want. You will be able to format it because it is not the drive partition that you are running on.

About the only difference with your newly cloned ssd will be the faster speed of boots and load times of apps and programs, etc.
