My motherboard is Dual Channel?

My motherboard says it supports Dual Channel. Does that mean i can't have one stick of 8gb RAM, or do i have to have 2x4 RAM? Thanks

It's not mandatory that you need to install the memory in pairs. But in order to utilize the Dual channel memory architecture you need to have matching memory (speed, latency, voltage and probably size). So, if you are installing the 8GB module along with the existing memory then try to match the speeds and maybe that is enough to make 'em work in dual channel. Else single 8GB module is also not an issue.

Yes, there is a performance difference between different memory modes single, dual, triple and Quad. The diff b/w single and dual maybe around ~5-10% at max. I guess you have ordered the memory...

You "dont" have to have 2x4GB but it performs better in dual channel than single channel, if your motherboard supports 1x8GB than go for it IF you do plan to add another 1x8GB in it for dual channel, if you dont need extra RAM than go with 2x4GB which I'd recommend...

I dont plan on getting more RAM, but it does have two more slots after 2x4, so i will try to find a lower price for that.

You can have only 1 stick of RAM installed. The thing is that the performance will degrade in the range of ~5%. Dual/Triple/Quad channel exists but it is not really necessary to utilize them for the computer to function, but memory performance will decrease in that case.

ok. i found some 2x4 thats only $3 more so thats good
