3 way crossfire is really buggy. But if you still want to do it; to answer your question - yes.
The 7990 is literally just 2 7970's on one board.

That being said, it will take a LOT of power, produce a lot of heat, and not perform very well.

Do you mean the usual crossfire bugs? Cause its supposed to be fixed in the new beta drivers. Id really love to do this since im going crossfire anyways and 7990 aint much more expensive than asus 7970 matrix platinum. Here in finland atleast.

The new 13.8 drivers help, but they don't actually fix everything - the problem is still there, and it's less.

But that's not what I meant. I meant that three-way crossfire is a total waste of money because it really doesn't perform hardly any better than two-way crossfire.

Just checked, 7970 is only 150euros cheaper than 7990 here. Still a waste of money?

150 euros is a pretty fair amount. The third card is only going to give you about a 30-40% improvement over having two cards... it's up to you whether it's worth the money, heat, and power draw. (Because, remember, AMD's 7990 is a ridiculous power hog - you're going to have to have one heck of a PSU to deal with a 7970 and a 7990.)

This is true with sli also. 3 way configurations and up have diminishing returns and generally have lots of issues and heat.

Yeah actually i just realized that my PSU isnt powerful enough. I bought it like 3 days ago for the 7970 cf setup. Its a xfx 850w one. I think ill still go with another 7970. Shame tho, would've loved the power haha!

I wasn't calling you out. Didn't mean to make it sound like that :/

Also not 100% sure but to my knowledge the new drivers only 'fix' two way Crossfire, anything higher is currently unaffected.

If you 'just' bought it, theres a chance the store will take it back if you ask nicely. Swap it for two 760's or something.
