Hi

Currently have a 6990 running with the latest drivers: 12.104.0.0. I see both cores of my GPU under device manager and I also can see both cores working if I run a test process such as Furmark. However when attempting to play games such as Assassin Creed iii only one GPU is working while the other is idle.

I was wondering why I was getting lagging even on minimum settings, not much but I would expect smooth gameplay with this card. Looking under my hardware monitor I see only one card is working, likely explaining the lower then expected game play. Anyone know why this is and what I can do to fix it so the game will use both GPUs

ok so because you have a newer and better version then the recomended one (the Radeon HD 6850) it does not require more than one GPU to run the game :)

also make shure you have this or better for the recomended specs

CPU: 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 or 3.0 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
CPU Speed: Info
RAM: 4 GB
OS: Windows Vista (SP2) / Windows 7 (SP1) / Windows 8
Sound Card: Yes
Free Disk Space: 17 GB

All minimum requirements are well exceeded. The problem is the game does not use more then one core of the graphics card

AC: III does not support crossfire, as far as I know (It appears to be highly optimized for nVidia cards). That means the second GPU will actually slow the game down. You should disable the second GPU, since a single 6990 core (which is equivalent to a 2GB 6970) will get 40+ FPS with the game maxed at 1080p, and the second core is just making waste heat.

The 6990 overclocks well, especially if you give it some thermal headroom by disabling the second GPU. You are much better off OCing one core in a game that fails with crossfire.
