Computer not detecting internet/Ethernet cable

So after restarting my computer it no longer wants to connect to the internet and in addition does not detect my Ethernet cable. I tested the Ethernet cable on my laptop and it works fine, so its not the cable, to double check I even tried a second cable on my desktop and had no luck either. Any advice on getting my internet back up and running would be of great help. In addition for what it is worth I am using windows 7 64bit.

Yes I have tried that, along with many other commands, and resetting the BIOS. What I have noticed is that the light on my port does not light up, but when I check in the device manager the device manage the adapters seem to be working, and when I ping it, it works as well.

EDIT- It's begging to appear that a thunderstorm may have fried my Ethernet port, I'm going to buy a new PCI Ethernet card and see if that works.
