Approximate Purchase Date: within a month

Budget Range: up to $250

Monitor Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming/seldom for movies

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: no preferences. N/A

Country of Origin: Pakistan (live in Dubai, UAE)

Brand Preferences: Asus & Samsung. But open for considering others too, based on your expert advise.

Physical Size (Diagonal): 23" (apologies..not sure about its diagonal area; only know the standard panel size)

Resolution(s) You'll Consider: 1920x1080

Computers and Other Devices To Attach: 1 desktop (DVI, HDMI)

Panel Type(s) Desired: TN/IPS

LED Backlight: Desired. But might as well consider a non-LED backlit display if it doesn't matter much and reduces the cost.

Speakers: Avoided

Wall-Mount: Avoided

Stand Functions: tilt

Additional Comments: Don't care about the least response time/input lag or the best possible visuals. Only need a nice all-round performer under $250.

These are models I've looked into so far:
Asus VW246H, VE247H, VS239H

Thanks a lot.

The Asus ones you picked are all good choices. For color quality and viewing angle, an IPS monitor is best, you may be able to find a good one on sale in your price range, but maybe in 21" instead of 23". Dell UtraSharp are excelent. I have not tried many other IPS screens, and the NEC I have is a high end one in the $600 range so I can't say how the lower end NECs are.

All monitors are measured diagonally, including TVs, so 23" is diagonal. An interesting note, the CRT monitors had their size listed for the most part as full tube size, which was covered by the bezel. So you could have a 19" monitor that was actually an 18" viewable size. LCD size is the true viewable size.
