I want to get a good home server to share music, movies, data and backup home systems.
I am wondering support wise if it is better to put together your own system from parts or buy a preconfigured system from HP, Dell, Intel or SuperMicro.
I would say purely for support, build your own. Something goes wrong with it, you can narrow it down and send in that specific part (some gpus have a double life time warranty for example) for rma and replace a single part and know the status and know when it will be fixed, rather than wait for hp to tell you its broken and take 200 bucks and a few months to fix it.
