I'd get an AMD octa-core if you are worried about next gen. games. Since both consoles are going to be running AMD octa-core Cpu's, makes sense that a PC port running an AMD octa-core Cpu would run better. But since we have nothing concrete to test this out on, it's a crap shoot. However, if you have the option of upgrading to an octa-core down the road, you should be setup for later if it does indeed turn out that way. If not, you haven't spent a ton of money and can still swap over to an Intel build if the gains in performance are there.

^ I call 'no.' Current consoles are INSANELY multithreaded... and console ports use two threads if you're lucky.

What makes you think that tomorrow's ports are going to be any better? They're going to be based on what the largest market share of their consumers are using to play the games - why bother to create games optimized for quad-cores when 51% of sales are ran on dual-cores and another 10% are still run on single core CPUs?

Simple, because it involves the least amount of work. If you are programming for an AMD octa-core console cpu, how much work does it take to port that over to PC to run on an AMD octacore cpu? The work involved would be to make it work ok with other cpu's, but it should still have optimization for the Amd cpu.

...It doesn't work like that. The games will be optimized for THAT specific CPU, and that's it.

On the pc, it won't even know what CPU it's using; it'll be instructing the intermediary programs to handle that - it's not like it's going to send different instructions to windows if it's gaming on an 8350 as opposed to an i5.
