So my problem with my computer at the moment is that it crashes with a striped screen when I play games. I have absolutely no idea why it crashes. The only time it did this before was during stress tests I ran with an unstable overclock, where the computer screen would just show the vertical stripes and not respond, needing a complete restart to work again.

I would understand if it does this with my overclocks, and temperatures are skyrocketing, but no. I turned down my overclocks back to stock, assuming that was what was wrong. However, with temperatures still sitting comfortably under 56c, running at stock speeds (800/1250), I still get the crashes. Could it be that my card is dead and needs replacing?

I still have warranty for it in the local store where I bought it from, so I should still be able to get it replace. However, I don't want to do that if I don't need to. I was thinking of a driver update, and trying the beta 13.8 drivers. However, upon further research, I found that such a problem was caused mainly by hardware issues, and so I don't think I should bother with the driver update.

TL;DR: Computer crashes with a striped screen when under gaming load, even at stock settings. Is this a sign of a dying card. and so should I use the warranty to try and get it replaced?

you should consider a "clean" driver install first. uninstall all the things related to your gpu drivers, control software, install manager , other relative things, etc. then get "driver sweeper" and reboot your computer in safe mode. run driver sweeper and check/clean anything left from what was there. restart your pc normally and update your drivers to 13.8 beta. 13.8 beta is safe to install as i'm also usng it.

if it continues to fail you better get it replaced. and never play big overcocking around, hence also as far as i know, low temperature itself doesn't means that your card is good to push against limits.

Could you please explain the reason for the vertical stripes? I mean the nature of the crashing. A lot of people have said that it's mainly hardware issues, but your post suggests that a software problem could be involved, and can get fixed without replacing my GPU. If you could explain to me why these crashes occur in the first place, that would help a lot.

On the other hand, I've downloaded the new beta drivers for now. I will do a clean install tomorrow, as it's getting late. I will post again if the problem is resolved tomorrow.

EDIT: I've updated the drivers, and it still crashes. Time to use the warranty or...?
