hello, my current router wrt54g2 is giving me sooo much trouble its time for a new router. for many years i used an older wrt54g that worked perfect. i cant remember which model it was but it was an early one with the big antennas.

can you guys tell me which wrt54g is the best model i can buy? i have lots of experience with linksys so i want to keep it in the family, and i want to buy used on ebay in the range of 30 bucks. thank you very much

Why go with a old G router you are better off with any of the linksys n routers. Better is very subjective. From a performance standpoint there is very little difference between models. Other factors such as software features and things like if you can load third party firmware you are going to have to answer yourself since only you know which things you need and which you do not.
If you are concerned with stability from a hardware standpoint it appears almost every brand has issue in the long run. They build stuff with the cheapest parts they can get in china and after a few years almost every brand has some percentage failure rate. You could buy commercial grade stuff but you are generally better off taking your chances since...

thanks for the response bill001g, i own two newer linksys routers, the wrt54g2 and a linksys e2500. the e2500 doesn't connect to some of my devices and on average has a slower download speed than the wrt54g. the wrt54g has to be unplugged once a day to deal with extreme lag issues. both routers have been updated to there latest firmwares.

i used an old wrt54g for about 5 years and never had to even touch the thing, it worked perfect. im also on a budget so i was looking at replacing my routers with an older model. please help!
