Best CPU stability test?

I just overclocked my i7-4770k to 4.7 Ghz at 1.23 Volts and I would like to check for stability? What stability test would you reccomend I download? I would like it to be free.

lol nice one, never thought of that. I mean i've read even IBT can bring down stock cpu configs mainly to do with IBT not entirely designed for commercial cpus or rather, but if the system holds it's own during the IBT + game, it must be doing well.

Time and games will be the ultimate test, but to better your chances, run IBT for a straight 20 passes and then run and leave Prime95 going for 24hrs to niggle out any other problems Prime95 will help find that IBT wont.

Yeah, most people will use IBT or Prime95 and will be advocates of either dependant on taste for the most part. IBT will get the cores hotter, and Prime95 seems to be better for finding finicky stability issues. If your going to use Prime95 use small fft's, which ill ensure you only test the CPU/Cache. You should also use memtest for testing memory.

Most importantly out of them all use something like Core temp to monitor your temps. AS you stress test your temps will rise, and you don't want it to go above a certain level. Find out what level that is for your CPU.

Also test your memory using memtest86 for at least 10 passes (will take several hrs) to give some peace of mind the memory settings are also reliable. Prime95 will do a good job at this as well testing memory albeit memtest86 does a further thorough job.

Download the iso and burn as an image file so the system is able to boot from it, be it cd or usb, change settings necessary in the bios. Memtest will boot and start testing (can esc at anytime)

Haha ik it will get hot, but you'll quickly find out if it stable or not cause I myself ran IBT, P95, M86 24 hrs all succesfully but I tried playing Metro last light and rendered a video on after effect with P95 then IBT and both just crashed in matter of minutes. But then again its not like your ever going to push your cpu to the MAX like this. Just dont run P95 and IBT at the same time, it will just cancel each other out.

So Just a side comment, Memtest vs Prime95 for testing ram.
... I ALWAYS us a bootable disk with Memtest86 for New build PRIOR to loading OS Hate to load OS only to find out it was corrupted doto memory errors. Same - same when OCing, or changing RAM/Ram setting prior to booting to OS.

.. However after OS is Loaded, I always doble check by unning Prime 95. I had several occassions where my system passed Memtest for 4->6 hours but failed in prime 95within 5 to 30 Minutes.

Do I need to run these tests every time I overclock my CPU? Or just the first time so that I can set a definite voltage and speed? Also, when you say test my "memory" what do you mean? I am very new to overclocking, but built this system so that I could learn how to OC. I want to know the fastest, most efficient way to overclock.

No, use the bios to overclock every single time. And once you find that a frequency/voltage is stable, you don't need to test it every single time you boot. If you change the frequency/voltage, you need to test it, though.

Well I mean dont you want to know if your OC is stable? If you can't wait hours to see if its unstable or not the fastest way to go is running IBT or P95 while playing a really demanding game like Flight Sim, Ik it's not free but just pirate it for testing purposes. To be honest though, I seen people run it only for 20 min or so and have no problems at all and call it stable, you can try and do that

There is a custom option in prime95 under torture test. Select small FFT's first and then select custom set sizes and duration per test according to your need.

I set 4K start 0.5K finish with 2 minutes test durations. It tests blazingly fast.
